Here I am in the office doing nothing. Surfing the web, chatting, day-dreaming..

So, midterm is over! And I got my own show at the birn, it's called That 90's Show, every Tuesday 2-4pm EST. It's an awesome show you guys should check it out : )

Watched my brother played for MJ tribute on youtube, all I gotta say is: Bro cut your hair please! But it's good to see him moving while playing now hehehe.

And.. what else.. I've been having trouble sleeping, as usual. My average sleeping hours is probably 4 hours - and if I can make it to 6 it's considered super good!

And oh yeah I'll be 21 on Friday but I'm not really excited about it don't know why. I feel like I've been the same person since I was 15. Well that's not true, I know I kinda changed a lot but still.. whatever.

Aloha!

Wow damn hooray boohoo yippie yay sigh can you believe it - it's OCTOBER already! I'm almost half-way thru Fall semester!

So how am I doing? Well life's okay (I guess) and love life's suck (as usual lol). Other than that, I've been quite busy! I just joined the BIRN (Berklee International Radio Network) and still in the middle of my training, then I got this World Choir thing (show @BPC on the 14th!), and a temporary job (yeah baby!) at Berklee's CAC, and TONS of homeworks and assignments, and on top of that I gotta force myself to practice practice practice practice practice practice and PRACTICE so yeah actually I'm kinda impressed with me that I haven't passed out or something.

Oh wait - that's not entirely true. I was sick a couple weeks ago. Had a very bad flu (it's not swine flu, no worries) and a massive headache. I've been really tired this few days too, and the weather has not been really supportive too - it's really weird sometimes it feels like summer for a couple of hours before suddenly it turns into a cold hard bitch.

Anyhoo I shouldn't be complaining because really there's nothing I could do about the weather's swinging mood. Soooo let's talk about classes. I looove my business classes this semester! The teachers are so kind and nice and super cool (I did a right decision switch my accounting class - get away from the winking teacher) and they know the shit inside and out! My conducting class is hilarious! Piano labs are fun! CWP classes are good too!

Okay that was some short classes descriptions.

Anyway I'm getting dizzy again now, I need to sleep. Will try to update this pathetic little blog more often ; )

Yayayayayayyy I just finished my last exams today! Been a while since last time I updated this silly little blog. Been kinda busy (well not really but yeah), got quite a lot of stuff to do. So to summarize this summer semester I've come up with a conclusion that I would NEVER take a full credit on summer EVER AGAIN. Dudeee 16 credits in 12 weeks is just to much to handle. It was really nice in the beginning - don't get me wrong - like, everyone was so chill and relax, teachers seem in good mood, and it was easy to get a practice room and all.. Then.. somewhere before the midterm - when suddenly I feel like I got TONS of work to do all of sudden - I was like, OKAY MAN THIS IS TOUGH!! But, guess what. Midterm wasn't that bad at all. Not after you meet final. I ALMOST DEAD, literally. I had 3 all-nighters in one week. I was a walking zombie. CRAZY. And I keep on doing idiot little careless mistake on WHEN my subjects need to be submitted.

#1 Tech tools - I thought it's due for August 12. Found out that it's due for August 5 ON THE NIGHT BEFORE. I was so lucky I kinda started on the project few days ago. So I didn't sleep and managed to finish the subject at 10.30am on the next day. My class was at 11am. The project result? B.

#2 Arranging for horns - Same thing different story. I thought the project band is still gonna be available until Friday August 7 so I turned in my score and parts on Thursday - WRONG. Thursday was the last day of the project band and there are no more slot available anymore. So I emailed my teacher, said I'm so sorry blablabla. Then she said it's fine I can sequence it. Then I was thinking, alright cool so I can relax abit until Monday - WRONG. My roommates and I (we're in the same class) found out that the project is actually due for THAT DAY, yes, on thursday August 6. We came to that realization at 2.30am.. so yeah that was even better than my tech tools project. So what I did was I just import & export every single gawddamn track to midi from finale to logic, and make some correction, and bounce. I didn't even mix it properly. Then we went to the PW office to drop off our projects at 9am. Result? B.

#3 Principal to Business Management - So I have to do business plan for this class. I was just being kinda plain stupid on this one. I thought I'd finished the last part in like few hours, but then I ended up staying up all night, cos I figured out I need to do some correction on the previous parts to boost up my grade and yadda yadda. Finished the whole thing at 4.30am, then headed to Yuju's place to print it and halfway there I realize the road is kinda scary. LOL. Then submitted it at 9am. Result? B+.

ARGH. I feel so bad, I know I could've done WAAAY BETTER THAN THAT : (

But heck, well it's all OVER now and I can finally breath the holiday air :D

Been a while since my last post! Well I guess things are getting settled now so I can blog about my most recent so-far-so-good life : )

Berklee's great. Wait - I should put it like this: Berklee's GREAT!! There - with capital. I'm shoooo excited! My roommates are great, I've met new people, the weather's weird but it's alright, and I think I'm doing the right thing choosing to do dual major straight away. :D

First week of class was even more tiring than the orientation week! I was really trying my best to sync my brain to back to school "mode". The classes and the teachers and the classmates are really good, well, except for this one class - Technology Tools for Writers - the teacher sucks big time. I'm not saying that he's not good, he knows a lot of stuff and he knows Digital Performer inside out but he can't teach!! Seriously. Most boring class ever! He actually spent one hour just to talk about the control button! "So.. this is the record button. You press it when you want to record.. Next to the record button is the play button....." But he's the only teacher for that subject this summer so I can't change the class : (

But, hey! That's the only bummer. The rest of the subject are really interesting! I have 3 business classes and 3 writing classes, 2 piano labs, and private instruction : )

My PI teacher gave me this super nice song, it's a pop/gospel-ish piece and I loveeee the chords! It's written and I have to memorize it for the exam and I've never played any written piano piece except for classical piece, so this should be fun!

Just came back from Bali (whoohoo!) and quite tired. It was a very short trip, one day only. My dad got a call on sunday said he needs to go there for some works - and since he always tells me: if it's possible, you should go to Bali before you're off to Boston - he was like, Hey let's go follow me! Then he asked my mom and sister too, and we all was like.. erm.. that sounds interesting!

Didn't do lots of stuff there but I'm happy - it's been years man! Flew to Denpasar on sunday night, then the next day I had a chance to walked around kuta for abit.. then while my dad went for the work thingy we went for a little shopping, went for lunch (super nice food!!) and met up with him, then a little bit of shopping again, then fly back to Jakarta.

Been quite busy with things-that-I-have-to-prepare-before-I'm-gone-on-the-17th stuff. Now I'm waiting for the I-20 form to arrive so I can apply for the visa interview. Hope the time is on my side.. And I just got a place to stay today.. Can consider myself to be lucky on this one.. Got a cheap rent at backbay area. The room is shared tough, but it's only til summer's over and the apartment is homey so I guess I'll be fine : )

I made a countdown calendar, today is the 26th so it's freakin D-21!! 3 more weeks before the flight!! Feeling really really excited, and seems like everything is kinda "floating" too at the moment - cos somewhere in my mind I'm still thinking that I'm going in September, not 3 weeks from now! Like.. Hmm I don't know how to explain it.. Like I know what's going on and I got this bucha stuff to prepare but at the same time I'm questioning this whole thing.. Is it really happening to me?

Went to watch DISNEY ON ICE : PRINCESS WISHES today :D

Snow white, Aurora, Jasmine, Cinderella, Mulan, Belle, Ariel, and Tinkerbell

Aladdin and Little Mermaid are my favorite Disney cartoons of all time beside Lion King (the only movie that made me cry). I kinda have a crush on Aladdin (don't laugh!!) (love the singing voice. Hands down to Brad Kane). And Ariel is the most beautiful Disney princess for me.

So here we go.. I love the idea of 7 princess all together in one show, but somehow some parts were - in my opinion - quiet unimportant. The list of the unimportans are, #1 - Tinkerbell. Okay I get it she's a super cute character but somehow her role was.. a bit vague I would say. She's the one who has the power to bring the every stories real (basically she showed up everytime they gonna start a new story and she drawn her glittery magic wand around and the stage settings changed). So yeah actually she was okay as a transitioner but.. I don't know.. Maybe because the cartoon character is so much cuter.. Haha okay nevermind.

Snow white showed up for like 5mins only, while they gave the dwarves 10mins. Belle's scene didn't show the Beast at all, and she was wearing the ordinary blue dress, not the yellow gown. And Mulan - she's the most unimportant scene - giving some kids few kung fu/martial art advices then her boyfriend came then they did a little ice dancing then ok our slot is done! What the hell.

But the rest were superb. I got goosebumps when Aladdin and Jasmine danced to A Whole New World. The fight: dragon vs Aurora's prince was cool. The Ariel story was cute - cute flounder, cute sebastian, and cute choreographer. Cinderella as the closing story is just a classic. Then all the couples came out and they did a stunning closing dance. Overall it was awesome I think, didn't witness any princess downfalls like failed spins or jumps, everything went smoothly beautiful.

And I just have to post this song lyrics. Can't get it out of my head

Few updates & to-do lists:

1 I can't differ to September so yes, people, I'm still going in Summer - which is just A MONTH AWAY. Just paid the tuition deposit few hours ago, gonna send the 1-20 Request form tomorrow, and fill up the immunization form also.

2 Gotta file up every documents. Academics, applications, everything!

3 Plane ticket.

4 Student visa.

5 Looking at the housing bulletin board now.. I'm gonna need a place to stay right?

6 Just remembered I didn't post anything bout the Jamiroquai concert. It was (almost) totally awesome! (almost because they didn't play my favorite song - virtual insanity)

Damn - I feel like I'm on some kind of amazing freakin race. Wonder how things gonna work this time.. Oh dear God You never fail to find a way to test me huh?

Finally watch this movie:

Across the Universe

WOW - it's probably the best movie I've seen this year! I'm not exaggerating. I'm not a big fan of musical and I'm not a The Beatles hard-core fan either. Yeah sure I think I'm quite familiar with almost half of the songs inside the movie, but what makes me fall for the movie is the plot and how they connect it with the music - it's beautiful.

My favorite part is when Max singing Hey Jude, then Jude decided to go back to America, and he was walking on the street when they all singing the Naa Nana Nanananaaaa part, and the kids came out and walked with him, and Jude smiled - and that put a smile on my face too!

Other great scenes are during the song Strawberry Fields Forever, Dear Prudence, Across the Universe (Jude on the train.. remembering himself with Lucy - it kills!!), Let it Be (really nice gospel arrangement!), If I Fell (Lucy singing to Jude), Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, and several more I can't remember or I don't know the name of the songs.

After watching the movie I fell somehow closer, or more connected with the Beatles and their songs. Like I wanna know and learn more about them. If you listen to some of their songs, they sound so simple and catchy then suddenly out of nowhere the song turned 3/4 or 4/4 with a very weird phrasing and before you can say "What the hell was that?!" they're back to the simple and catchy again.

I remember my friend Marcel (huehe maap bawa2 nama) was once really into the drumming in Come Together. He said the drummer (George Harrison if I'm not mistaken) is futuristic. He played that kind of roll in that freakin time (I'm not sure it's either 60s or 70s) and nobody played like that at that time.

Aaaaaa I wanna learn more about you guys Beatles! Anyone please feel free to help me okay : )

FINALLY I GOT A FREAKIN OFFICIAL REPLY!!!

So apparently they're still evaluating my application (whatever hell that means) - and they said they should know the decision no later than April 10th. Well, we'll see then.

Trying to look on the bright side:
...the best time to attend Berklee would be the Fall Semester, as that's the start of their academic calendar year and all the good faculty are back at Berklee to teach. If you do not get a response for the Summer semester - consider yourself blessed.

Wow this is kinda weird. Setelah 12hari di KL akhirnya saya kembali ke pelukan ibu pertiwi (jieeekkh) beberapa jam yang lalu.

Anyway, let's start the story with sunburst. It was okay I guess (last year was shooo mucchhh better). Sedikit menyesal datengnya kepagian. Mataharinya itu lhooo menyengat sekali! Dan band band sore kurang oke dan kebanyakan hard core rock gitu. Tapi yasudahlah, I got to meet some of my friends there hehe. Terus sekitar habis magrib Nidji main. One of my friend is a fan, and it turned out that almost everyone is a fan! Damn, I didn't know they're that famous in Malaysia! And the performance was very good! The band was tight, the sound was a killer, and the showmanship was crazy! Rasanya bangga banget waktu dengerin para audience menyanyikan lagu lagu mereka. And surprisingly I know most of the lyrics, padahal saya cuma dengerin Nidji klo lagunya dipasang di radio aja hohoho. Four thumbs up! :D

Habis itu makan dan blablabla dan akhirnya sebentar lagi N.E.R.D main! Waktu Agrikulture msh main di panggung sebelah orang orang sudah menanti Pharrell dkk di panggung sebelahnya (haha maaf agak membingungkan). Saya bersama Tasya dan Rianda mencoba mencari spot yang oke untuk memandangi si abang diantara orang orang yang sudah berkerumun itu. Lalu saya melihat seseorang dengan topi cowboy yang tak lain tak bukan adalah Mr. Fooker, jadi bergabunglah kami bersama dia. Sementara di cukup kejauhan saya melihat Marcel dengan topi N.E.R.D nya berdiri di barisan depan. Lalu setelah menunggu sekitar 20menit..

Finally: Showtime!! N.E.R.D ROCKS!!!!!!

I've never been shouting and jumping around so much in a concert like that!! (And sweating too, plus sweats from other people - Ewwwww). And Marcel was shoooo lucky he got the chance to get up to the stage!! Pharrell noticed he was wearing N.E.R.D cap and Ice Cream t-shirt. When I saw him up there I felt happy! Because Marcel's a real fan - he totally deserves it :). So the rumour about Pharrell's not coming is wrong - Chad wasn't there. Dan sayang sekali pas mereka manggung sound nya kurang oke, tapi bodo amaaaat :D

After N.E.R.D I was practically didn't have much energy left, so we're just sitting down, watching Korn from afar. And my voice was almost gone. Terus Christina dengan berbaik hati mengantar saya, Uga, Feri, dan Marcel pulang. Tapi kita ngga langsung pulang sih, makan ke seberang. Makan di mamak dan gosip, hehe. Pulang pulang buru buru mandi keramas kilat, terus tidurrrr.

What a day!

Then, today woke up at around 1pm, did the packing (I keep on forgetting stuff!), and had lunch in pavilion with the gank. Waktu akhirnya udah harus pergi ke airport, akhirnya ga kuat juga, nangis dehh pas pelukan sama semuanya :,( Definitely will miss you guys shoo muchhh.

Then Fook and Uga sent me to the airport.. Bye bye Malaysia

Flightnya sedikit ngaret, biasa lah airasia hehe. Di airport, pas jalan keluar dari pesawat ngelewatin ruang tunggu, eh tiba tiba saya melihat sesosok yang cukup familiar yaitu adalah Mr. Bong Drum! Had a 3 minutes of brief conversation with him, ternyata dia abis ada show di Jakarta bersama band Korea nya. Haha that's very random.

Lalu, ngelewatin imigrasi, ngambil koper, keluar, liat Pak Bawor, masuk mobil, jalan pulang, tidurrr di mobil, akhirnya sampe deh di rumah.

So here I am back again. And boredom strikes already.

Tomorrow will be my official last day here in KL. I'm not really feeling anything right now, but who knows, maybe tomorrow I'll (most likely gonna) burst out crying.

But, HEY! There's still this sunburst thing to look forward to! But oh nooo Erykah Badu is cancelled!!!!!! WHAT THE HELL. And this rumor about N.E.R.D that Pharrell is not coming, please please please don't spoil my holidah.. Sigh.

So this past few days I've only hung out with some fellas who stay in my old apartment.. Nothing much.. Played dota (finally!!) hahaha after all this months. And yea really nothing much. Been spending my time catching up with American Idol season 8 (thank God for good internet here). You go Danny Gokey!!! I think I like all of the finalists this season.. hehe.

And.. Still no news from Berklee. Dammit. I tried sending email to Gojko (I don't know how to spell his name) that Serbian dude from the admission office, but still no reply. Damn damn damn damn.

Hm that's all I think. Oh yeah and I hate this feeling right now : _ _ (

This day is the best day!
Went to check out Glen Dauna, my super teacher. It was very nice. He played one song with his two sons, one played trumpet and the other one younger playing harmonica. It was shooo cute! He played original songs from his album, and I think I fell in love with the drummer ha ha ha. Sandi Winata you rock!! I dig your playing man!!
Chuck Loeb is awesome! The songs, tone, the playing, everything was nice! He's a white smooth jazzer with a rock bite! And he turned out to be a super nice guy. We was waiting for him after a show on Sunday, then my brother called him and said that he's a big fan (FYI, my brother has only seen him play once) - then he was like Hang on, I'll go down. Then he went down from the stage and meet us and had a little chat and we took picture.
Budjana and Tohpati are real Indonesian guitar Gods! They played a duet, no band - just the two of them - and they are freaking good! I can listen to their playing 24/7.
Mike Stern is a nice guy but Dave Weckl is a cocky dude, and he's short.
Really happy with my choice today! Yippieee! :D

Getting nervous.

Today I went to collect tickets for javajazz. My friend told me the line is damn long and she had to queue for 2hours the other day, so I was like okay, fine. They said the counter opens at 11am. So I went from my house at 10am, hope will reach there (The Sultan Hotel, Sudirman) at 11am - wrong. I reached at 11.20-ish. And the line was..................................................................damn long, indeed. It started at the hotel lobby in the lower ground, all the way to.............................................the tunnel that connects the hotel to the venue. It's like from ICOM to Heritage, or from Pavilion all the way to Times square, seriously. I'm not exaggerating. Well maybe a bit, but still. I spent 2 and a half hours til finally get those tickets!

So later I found out that lots of ppl been lining up already since morning, even before the counter open, like, 830 in the morning. Dang.

My happiness after receiving the tickets didn't last long, because I still had to drive all the way to Pondok Labu to get my sister from school. I almost couldn't feel my feet afterwards. COTDAMMYT!
I reached home, had a late lunch and brief practice, headed to my room, and finally had a very good nap!

After that been checking my email inbox every hour, but no news yet from berklee! Shit shit shit. Talked to my friend and she said maybe I should email or call them to ask. Okay.. relax first.. I should be accepted.. They should accept me, right?

So today I woke up at about 10am in then morning. I came downstairs, then looked at some things on the dining table, then decided to eat toast. Okay, fine. I made myself some toasts and eat. Then I read newspaper and did some practicing for a while, and at around 1230am I feel like eating something again, so I decided to have lunch. Rice with fish and veggie.

At around 1.30pm, my mom came back with my sister, then she told me my dad bought some donuts last night. So I was like, okay, that can be my desert. And I ended up eating 2 of that junk.

Later in the afternoon, we're going out to send my sister to her dentist and I wanted to take my laptop from the service center (it's fixed! yay!). The traffic jam was B-A-D!! It took us 2hours to get to the place! After my sister is finished and I took my laptop and yadda yadda so we're back on the road again, and my mom was hungry. Then she remembered she brought 3 donuts, just in case we're hungry on the road. She ate 1, then I ate another one. But my sister didn't want to eat the other one, so I ate it too. (Still following? Hang on, there's still more)

When we reached home I told myself that I won't eat dinner or anything else tonight. But, later my dad came home, and he bought our favorite Sop Kambing. He was like Uma..! I brought you something! Yesterday you said you want it right?.. And I was like oh yeah right, yesterday I told him I missed Sop Kambing. I wasn't hungry, but then I don't know why I came downstairs, and I eat it, with rice. I was damn full afterwards. My stomach almost explode and I feel really guilty.

And now? I'm posting this thing with a bowl of cereal on my lap.

Nothing much happened. It's been raining non-stop, and makes me feel sleepy non-stop too. Been thinking a lot recently. About almost everything. I think I wanna play my own song for the audition. I did the sequence few weeks ago, it was still half finish then my mood cheated on me so I didn't finish it.. yet. I sent it to my brother and ask for his opinion and he said it's okay but I have to work on the dynamics. Guess I gotta try to play around with logic alot more.. It took me almost forever to do that less than 2 minutes thing!

And unfortunately I can't continue to work on it because I sent my laptop to the service center.

Meanwhile the 3rd month of the year is drawing nearer.. Crap. And I think I kinda MEAT that person. Double crap.

Been twittering for a while. Surprisingly it's quite fun. Haha. Even I only got 1 friend and it seems like he won't read it anyway - just because he's a major singer/songwriter/gutarist - and apparently he's the reason I signed up for the thing.

Anyhoo, I've finished reading Lord of the Rings! Gotta rest for a while before reading the appendix, which looks like another volume of the book. Mr. Tolkien you are nuts! And you rock! I looove!
Then I looked for the DVDs in the house.. but can only find the return of the king.. Damn.

Gotta force myself to keep on listening to all the thing I should be listening.. Blah.

I wanna go for CD shopping shooooo bad! I think that's a good thing, since these days mostly I don't know what I want anymore :'(

Need to send my laptop to be fixed! Argh. And few other little things to do.

I'm already halfway through The Fellowship of the Ring, book two. It's kinda faster than I expected hehe. Actually I started to read before I read Blink.

I really enjoy reading this book again after all this years. I forgot about how detail Tolkien's description is.. And how the movie is actually suck.. haha. I love the movie, don't get me wrong, but if you happen to read the book, you'll realize too many things they cut to fit into 3hours of movie. But Legolas is such a hottie somehow it makes you forget hehee.

Okay so now they're decided to go pass through Moria.. Too bad Gandalf and friends didn't know what's inside there..

I love to read. You know I used to read a lot. I remember I finished Harry Potter #5 (the thickest one) in less than 24 hours (didn't put it down). I bought it on the day it came out, and found out later that Sirius is dead earlier than any of my friends! hehe.

For some reasons I haven't been reading that much in college, the last book I read was Mitch Albom's For One More Day - it's a great book, I love Mitch Albom - and it was months ago. So yeah since now I got loads of free time and all I'm beginning to read again.

Just finished this one a couple of hours ago:

Blink: The Power of Thinking without Thinking - Malcolm Gladwell

I'm not a big fan of that type of how-to-improve-yourself or how-to-reach-success kinda books, because usually when I lay my eyes on the first paragraph, usually I just feel like it's not right, or the language being used is not interesting. And there's this mindset of mine that books are supposed to tell stories. Maybe that's why those self improvement books look like a textbook for me, and textbooks don't really tell stories.

My first impression of this book is just okay, plain o-kay. I feel like I might give it a try, looking at the bestseller label pasted on it. So I began to read.. And few minutes later I was already between the words and sentences.
So it's about this phenomenon that happens in our everyday lives, like all those moments when we "know" something without knowing why. It's about how powerful and yet sloppy our instinct and/or unconscious mind is. Malcolm Gladwell describes this phenomenon as blink! - those brief 2 seconds (or less) time when we make our snap judgement, like our first impression towards something or someone. And he's showing how snap judgements can be way more effective than a long observed decision.
Many facts are shown and explained in this book. Like the fact that we have this locked door somewhere in our minds which actually is our unconsciousness, and no matter how hard we try or wait, the door won't open. Gladwell also stated that we can practice this unconscious mind and that we also have to be careful about snap judgements based on stereotypes, because stereotypes are sometimes hidden deeply in that locked door and can be very destructive.

The way Gladwell describes this phenomenon in the book, one chapter to another, is really clever and interesting. He shows some examples, cases, and experiments from various subjects from our every day life from many aspects so we can relate it. From the story of a fireman, musicians, police officers, and many more. After finish reading this book I definitely feel something different, like really want to improve myself to be that human beings who listen with their ears and heart, not with their eyes. You should read it too.

Anyway the weather is very supportive for laziness today. Been raining practically all day, so it's quite humid and the air is chill and the sky was cloudy. Makes you feel like staying in your room all day, lay on the bed, head on pillow, tuck yourself inside the blanket.. Damn! I took nap twice today, believe it or not. Gotta be more productive tomorrow. Reading another book sounds like a plan.

Had the first piano and vocal lesson here today. I was late like, LATE. My sister finishes school at 2.20pm, pick her up then send her to her piano lesson - fortunately the place is quite nearby - and don't know why the jam really freaked me out. It actually wasn't that bad, but somehow I always got the red lights and stopped by other cars turning in/out the road. So irritating.

The piano class stared at 3pm, and Hello - I reached at 3.37pm. But my teacher looked okay (of course, he just got a gaji buta :p) and he still let me have the remaining 13minutes.. We just talked and blablabla then the next student came and he was so kind to say yes when I asked him to switch the class schedule with me. So the good thing is next week I don't have to drive like a madcow:

Okay back to the topic.. Then he asked me to play some stuff. I didn't play much, and I told him my jazz playing is bad lalalala then he straight away noticed my weakness. And he decided to bring me back to the Swing. And he gave me homework - Blue Monk.
Actually if I looked back, I've learned these swing shits before. My previous teachers said that it was quite good (back then) but don't know since when I'm losing the swing.. Yeah so loads of work to do!

The next class surprisingly was better than my expectation. The teacher also damn cool. The method he uses is a bit different from the place where I used to work before but I guess it was alright. Apparently he was the teacher of some Indonesian Idols, so he supposed to be a killer vocal trainer. But well.. yah.. whatever. I'm just there to learn.

And this turned out to be quite a long post..
Now.. Gotta go back to practice.

Okay.. I don't really do that kind of so-called new year resolution, and 2009 is still 2weeks away (did I just say "still"? aw man, time flies!). But, heeey! Guess this time I'm gonna need one.
Yeah so I think I really messed up my last 2 semesters in college. I took it for granted :( but now I'm willing to pay back everything I miss! So, ladies and gentlemen, I've decided to try to get really close with finger exercises for piano, like:

Okay so the main reason is my technique sucks. Period. And my pinky finger is like super short and weak so I have to work on that. And using metronome is a must. And I know maybe I'll only be able to feel the difference in few months time but who cares. And I have to prepare one song for Berklee audition in March. And this time I have to give my 190%.

okay so on d-day my monitor wasn't working at all and i played few wrong notes obviously. but yeah the slavery has ended and the show was successfull and now i'm waiting for payday ;p

That was one of the most tiring day of the year! Seriously. We had practice until 11pm for this KL Foundation gig next week. Daym. And for the record, I was in college since 11am in the morning. That means I spent 12hours in college. Even the tribute band wasn't that bad!
The "uncle" lecturer looked very stress, because he's the one in charge of everything, and on Monday or somewhere around next week the boss wants to see everything. It was sooo funny when he was blah-blah-blahing in the end of the practice, then Najwa was still checking the mic, singing That's What Friends Are For, then we all just sang it to mr. uncle: for good times and bad times i'll be on your side forever moooore.. I swear his face went red man! (ok I know it doesn't sound that funny now, but maaan, you should've been there! it's a classic!)

There'll be another practice/torture/student-abuse tomorrow. Sigh.

Went to KLCC today (finally after soo many years! haha), bought some stuff for mi familia in Jakarta (I'm coming back in 3 days!! yay!). It's raining outside.. again.. it's been raining for the past few days.. And I'm home alone. Fook's gone to Singapore since sunday, and he's staying in JB for a while until Thursday maybe.. Hmm.. Then he's off to France on the next Thursday.. And I'm going back to Jakarta on the 26th, he's back on the 22nd.. Well, gotta get used to the long distance I guess.. blehh

I should sleep soon but this www.tv-links.cc is killing me. I can't stop watching Chuck. (the previous week was Dexter). Week 9 ICA is just around the corner.. Western Music History, Acoustic, and PI are going to kill me. Most probably I'll die sooner anyway on tomorrow's Jazz Ensemble. Haven't practiced the Au Privave solo from the Omnibook. Not that I don't want to, but no amp at my place, Uga took his one already so I can't practice on my keyboard. And the rain makes me even waaaay more lazy.

Anyway, I might be lazy but I ain't stupid.

CRAP. Crap crap crap.

Friday was the worst day ever. I lost my wallet. Seriously. I've never lost my wallet in my whole life before! And the suckiest part is somebody stole it. In college. While I was performing. (!!!) WHY MEEEE???? Luckily there's not much money inside, only about rm30 and some rupiah. But I lost my driving license, my IC, and atm cards. Dudeee that's painful - basically I lost all my cards except my touch n go. Damn sad :( and there is another thing.. I thought my performance was okay, then later afterwards I heard this Switzerland dude gave me a very very bad marks - he gave me alot of 5s - so yeah I guess he thinks performing pop song is not a valid performance. Well, tell you what, Mr. O-yeah-I-know-chick-corea : YOU ARE WRONG. Good music is just good music - it's as simple as that, and it'll always be that way. And there's no such thing as good or bad genre, it all only the matters of people's taste. And good musicians will try to listen as many stuff as they can. And jazz is not the only best music on earth.

Anyway, let's not talking about that dude, because I'm miserable enough rite now. Tried to hold down my emotion.. So yeah today was pretty weird, went out to work without my wallet. And I can't help having a bad mood the whole day. Decided to practice at night, and I wasn't expect that it was actually help me to control my mood. Haha. The PI 4 seems very tough. The arpeggios kill. I spent 2hours just to get them right, and it was only in the key of C. Really need to work hard and harder this semester, gotta pay my effortless actions last semester..

It was a bad starting for me but I must survive. Berklee I'm coming.

Kmaren pas lagi ngajar tiba2 saya bersin2 gila. (yg kenal baik sama saya pasti tau klo flu saya kambuh bisa bersin lebih dari 5kali sekali "puteran"). it's not a new song, first heard it when I was still in highschool - back in '04 or '05 maybe? the band is actually a "project" band, the members are from different countries, they played some groovy jazzy songs. gonna play this song for my friday performance this friday. the thing I like about this song is the groove is tight but still laid back at the same time. I like the way the keep it loose and keep it tight at the same time! and tompi's voice really suits the song. nice stuff, nice!

radiohead's cover. another kick-ass re-arrangement by mark ronson, taken from the album version. he worked with amy winehouse, lily allen, and many more. he adds some motown groove and feel to this song, which make it sounds fresh and sounds like a fun song! you can hear the brass section and the funky guitar riff. love both original and cover version!

yes it's another kick-ass re-arrangement of the song sunny, one of motown classic. love the intro when he's singing and doing some little beatbox. I started to listen to musiq soulchid when a very good friend of mine lend me the album "Soulstar". that time he was still using the name "musiq". then after that album, if i'm not mistaken, he adds the "soulchild". this song really stucks in my head until now. it's quite catchy, but not cheesy, and you'll feel like at least nod your head when listening to the song.

at last, but (of course) not the least. glad to hear him doing some acoustic stuff again. don't get me wrong, if you ask me to choose which one I like him to play better, the acoustic or electric guitar, honestly I have no idea what to answer. it's just that he got this really unique way of playing and he brings different color and different sound for every song. this song was written for the movie The Bucket List. haven't watched the movie yet, but it looks pretty good - morgan freeman and jack nicholson - I guess that's enough said. and the lyrics is the killer! on the chorus he just repeated the words "say what you need to say", but wow the way he put it, everything is just nice and at the right place! mayer rules!

friday 28th march 2008
what a day!
went for ear training at friggin' 9 in the morning. then after class this biyotch from the 5th floor said that my brother couldn't do the placement tests today cause he hasn't paid the school fees. i was like, what the heckk?? i told her already that i'm paying on friday and i asked her to settle the laptop package and she said okay can settle that on friday but then she said that to me! and some more my brother wasn't fight her at all, i was the one who stress out! cause i was a bit panic (and angry) i impulsively went back to heritage and take my things and went to the bank to bank in the money. but then i remembered that they still hold my passport! so i can't bank in anything anyway. so i went back to college then straight away heading to the 5th floor, then talked to the accounting guy, explaining that i can't bank in until i got my passport back bla bla bla then he said okay. just like that. so what was all the fuss all about? bastard fella.
then waited for the friday performance, and practiced by myself a bit. more than half of the performers today are the 1st semester students, they were quite good!
after that had a practice for my friday performance, which is next week. it was okay, i think the band sounds okay already, just need to work on some lines for my solo and maybe a couple more practice with the vocalist.
today was the icom bbq thing! it was raining in the afternoon, so we started quite late. but it was fun! a lot of people was actually showed up. too bad i had to leave early (well not so early) cause my friend is having a house warming event.

then came back reach heritage at about 4am (because of some dramas going on), and i decided not to sleep cause if i sleep then confirm i won't wake up (got work in the morning, gotta be at the station at 9.30). now is almost 7.30, gotta go for breakfast in a while (jieeekkhh).

arghargh i'm feeling so useless. i feel like everybody has their own musical activities. people around me are gigging around, or at least got a band. i can't even break into the tribute band at college. and the saddest part for me is they're making tribute to stevie, yes people, the wonderful STEVIE. dammit i love his music soooo much and i would really like to be a part of it, but then.. this smartest lecturer in college called the same old band members, the ones that already know his style and arrangements by heart, all his signature kicks and interludes and et cetera. i don't know what i actually feel rite now.. all things messed and tangled up in my mind.. and it seems like everyone likes my keyboard, and not my playing. I FEEL SO USELESS. and i just got scold from this another lecturer. i'm helping his class to play keyboard since they don't have any keyboardist. and today he was telling me about the strings voicings, that i have to give the right color for the song bla bla bla ok fine, but the way he said it was like i can't play at all and all i did was wrong! and i was like, what the fuck man! i played the exactly same thing like last week and the week before, then he said it was okay and then he suddenly preach me about all those things! and i'm 99.9% sure that he won't give a single damn about my voicings on the final performance! then i tried to practice some things but i kept on playing the same old crap.

FEEL SO USELESS.

A lot of things suddenly coming and rushing into my head and made me think about random things.. I feel like I almost explode.. Let's see if I can put them into words..

Some people's life are really like drama.. And I don't understand how on earth anyone can be that psycho.. And how stupid some people can be.. (makes me remember about this ad back in Indonesia: Jenius ada batasnya, Bodoh gak ada batasnya..)
Actually, I don't give any damn for anyone rite now.
My pimples are coming out like crazy.
Thinking about buying amp for my keyboard. Last time I used my brother's amp but he took it already, and I can't use my housemate's also cause he lent it to someone.
Really need to buy a new pair of jeans, maybe a couple of pair.
Money is tight at the moment. Some more I haven't paid phone and electricity bills.
Keep thinking about Berklee. Dammit. I want to do this (music) so bad! I told myself I should dream high and I'm trying to be tough but honestly I'm not that tough and this whole thing is waaaay harder than it seems.. I'm actually an optimistic person but not at this moment.. Don't know why I'm feeling like I'm not talented enough. Like no matter how hard I tried I always end up doing something sucks.
And I know I'm being such a lazy ass for so long.

Trying to make things change but dunno why it feels so hard.

The event was okay, I kinda expect that it won't be a perfect show (referring to my last experience when attending Live & Loud). Well:

* We reached there at 4something in the afternoon, watched Tompi, then right after that it started to rain heavily!

* Watched George Clinton & P-Funk, the sound was terrible! In the beginning for about 3-4songs I could only hear the bass and drums (but only the toms and the kick). No sound coming out from the keyboard, the guitar sounds was sooo small which is impossible cause there were like 4 guitarists there. The performance actually was pretty good, later they kinda fix the thing so can hear clearer.

* Saw Raul Midon for a while.. I watched him already at Java Jazz, but he still gave me goosebumps..

* Up next was The Roots! Woohoo! Send us some love, ?uestlove!! Anyway Fook really got ?uestlove's love: he got the sign drum stick ?uestlove threw. Dammit, he was standing next to me!! Marcel went crazy, of course. Half of his sunburst post was all about the root's performance, hehe :p

* Incognito was okay.. I saw them live at least a couple of time already, one thing I'm sure is the crowd in Jakarta is more happening! Here most of the people I think only know the song Still a Friend of Mine..

* Then John Legend's turn. Maaaan that guy is crazy! I didn't expect it would be that good, coz I have his DVD and I thought it wasn't that great but that daaaaay.. awww he was just amazing!! He's definately know how to interact with the audience! Such a nice performance!

* Incubus was cool! They were really tight to the max! Too bad they didn't play Pardon Me, I Miss You, and Talk Show on Mute (my brother said they played that song in Jakarta). The crowd was happening, I think half of the people there came for John Legend, and the other half came for Incubus.

* Actually we wanted to go home already, but then decided to stay for Estranged. They were suppose to play before Incubus, but because the schedule a bit mess up and late, so Incubus played first. Almost everyone is going back already when they performed. Anyhoo I only know 1song (Itu Kamu, hahaa) but it was quite fun, we were all cheering for Hanafi and Ken Chung hahahahha.

Quite a lot of things happened this past week.. Let's see..

#1 Berklee Audition was uhm.. it went quite well but i don't know.. just hoping for the best. I went there and just play and be myself, hope they like it. Actually did okay with the sight reading and the ear training stuff.. thank God for giving me a pair of quite good ears ;)

#2 But my ears didn't do really good on Ear Training's Aural Recognition. The result was a bit disappointing, luckily my dictation was alright..

#3 Contemp result was okay also, need to nail all the rest assignments!

#4 Sunburst - will post about that.

#5 I broke my working record : 5days in a row! So one of the team member was away so I had to fill in her slots last week. Quite tiring but not bad, fortunately it was still mid term break.

#6 My brother is here already!

#7 Playing for 3people this coming friday! Quite stress cause 3 of them are playing totally different style. One is playing r&b, another one playing an Indonesian-80's-fusion, and the other one playing rock (the song is shooo hard! I want to pass out already!). Gotta practice for the line for the rock song, I'm playing the brass part, dammit such a crazy song!

#8 Tomorrow is public holiday! Even the mid term break was just last week but I feel like I need some rest already!

Just came back from Jakarta!
Honestly, this is one of my best trip ever! It was just nice : 4 of us, good music, good food, no drama, no one got pissed off, and everyone is happy! :)

We went for Saturday and Sunday, sooo many performances but luckily we managed to watch the good acts! My friends were a bit shocked of the way people drive in Jakarta, especially on the 1st day when we experienced a hard-core insane taxi driver! Well, as many Indonesians said : If you can drive well in Jakarta you can drive anywhere else in the world. So, gotta get used to it..
